Pumpkin Carving

Included in our formal study of science is class time dedicated to holiday traditions embraced by our culture. One such holiday is halloween. To celebrate, the upper school students carve pumpkins to display at our halloween party. Below are pictures of some of the upper school students and their carvings.

Learning Fun has Begun!

The school year has just begun and already experiments are well underway in each of the six science classes offered to the Upper School students this year at the Flint Academy! Pictured above is a student in Physical Science class testing the relationship between oxygen and fire. Using the oxygen trapped inside the balloon, she will release it inside a glass jar that holds a small lit candle.  Will the candle flame burn brighter?

These students anxiously await the results of this exciting experiment!

The Upper School students have also started their Ecology study of fishes. We have spent time in the "outdoor classroom" studying the internal and external anatomy of a fish. Additionally, we learned about the fishes' aquatic home, whether it be freshwater, saltwater, or both.

Pictured above is a student enjoying the refreshing autumn weather at a local park.

Along with the science classes offered to the Upper School students, the Grammar School students rotate into the science classroom for science centers time each week. It is an exciting time for these young learners!
